Back Pain in Pregnancy
Why am I having back pain so early in my pregnancy?I just found out I am pregnant. How can my back be hurting so soon? Could something else be going on? Could I have injured myself and something else is making my back hurt? What can I do?
Congratulations on your pregnancy. Assuming that you have not been in an accident or trauma that may have caused an injury, it is most likely because you are pregnant. But fortunately there are some things you can do to manage your pain.
The pain can start very early in your pregnancy because of hormonal changes that begin as soon as you become pregnant. The hormones can soften your ligaments and make them more stretchy. Unfortunately, these ligaments are full of nerve endings which cause pain when the ligaments are stretched.
To help make your pain more manageable you need to start trying to limit how much you lift and bend. I know this can be difficult if you already have small children, but it will definitely help.
Something else you can do is gentle exercises to strengthen your core. After discussing it with your Ob/Gyn doctor you could do crunches, planks, and other exercises to strengthen your abs and your back muscles.
